i dream of Birkin

♥ dream ♥ smile ♥ love ♥

Figuratively and literally.

I have recently acquired an obsession with the world's most coveted handbag: the Birkin bag from Hermès. Over the past week I have read on its history, learned how it's done, watched videos about it, participated in forums dedicated to Birkins, virtually visited stores (I love their flagship store in Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Paris!), researched on different sizes, leather, color, hardware and yes.. the price. With all these running in my head during the day, it's no wonder these thoughts stay in my head when i sleep.

I DREAM OF BIRKIN. True story.

But that is what it will always be for me: a beautiful dream. You see, I'm a stay-at-home wife with no source of income. (Before you judge me, let me just say i do try to find a job. I just haven't had any luck yet after leaving* my job of 10 years and moving out of the country to be with the man of my dreams.) I am very much happily married and my wonderful husband spoils me! He massages my back, offers to wash the dishes (i seldom let him), drowns me with hugs and kisses every day. We go on trips, watch movies, go on dates, and he buys me nice gifts for special occasions.

This is the reason why I know I don't deserve a Birkin. I am very blessed as it is. What I have now is more than I've ever prayed for, more than I ever thought I could have. And so I find myself constantly praying silently for this obsession to go away and leave me in peace. But it just. isn't. happening.

Every once in a while, ideas would pop in my head (from I don't know where) about how I could have a Birkin. The ideas are actually somewhat entertaining but something I do not wish to entertain. They're just crazy. So I decided to put down the list in case some Birkin-dreamers out there need inspiration :)

8 Creative Ideas on How To Bring Home The Birkin:

Idea #1 - Downgrade your Diamond.

The beautiful engagement ring my dear husband gave me is the same price as a Birkin, if not more. So maybe I could sell it, buy a similar-looking moissanite ring and get a Birkin! Brilliant.

Idea #2 - Replace your baby with a Birkin.

My Husband and I both want to have a baby in the future. But since I have this obsession, I told my husband that if we can't have a baby naturally, instead of spending our money for artificial ways to have a baby, we could just buy a Birkin. He almost fell off his chair laughing in disbelief.

Idea #3 - Ask for a Birkin as a "Push Gift".

Carrying a baby inside the tummy for nine months, losing the figure, going through hormonal roller coaster ride and finally delivering a baby.. it's definitely hard work. Nowadays, more and more men acknowledge their wives' hardships  in carrying their baby by giving them a "push gift", the most common of which is in a form of jewelry. So maybe, just maybe, if we ever get pregnant I could ask for a Birkin? Then I could say "My baby came with a twin: a Birkin!" Lol.

Idea #4 - Walk.

One day I know we'll move back to California and when we do, my husband will have to get me a car. But you see, I don't drive. I'm scared to drive. I say I can just happily walk  as long as I have a Birkin on my hand.

Idea #5 - A Dying Wish.

If I ever find out I'm dying and someone asks me for my last wish, I would ask for a Birkin. I'll enjoy it while I can then have my family auction it after I pass away and donate the money for a good cause or start a foundation.

Idea #6 - Skip Lunch.

Given the Birkin price, divide it by my average lunch budget, skip lunch on those number of days  and there's my Birkin! I'm guessing it will take about three or more years without lunch before I reach my goal. Slim figure and a Birkin.. Win!

Idea #7 - The Sweet Way.

I can bake! All I have to do is bake and sell 7,500 pieces of rose macarons or 5,500 pieces of red velvet cupcakes and I can buy a Birkin! Uhm.. is there a worldwide event I can cater to?!

Idea #8 - Beg.

Victoria Beckham has the world's largest Birkin bag collection. She has more than a hundred (more than a hundred!!) Birkin in all sizes and colors. Surely giving one away would not be felt? Just one, any one Birkin... please, please, please.. pretty pleeaaase!

I may never know which one of these fabulous ideas would work best because, seriously, I don't think I can try any of them! At least I know in my dream, I own a Birkin. :)

This is my DREAM bag. Isn't she beautiful? :)
